Winner of the Smart City Challenge Competition Travelling to Israel

Solagro Team Awarded with Trip to Tel Aviv

    The first competition for creating applications for smart cities in Serbia, organized by BEUM association and sponsored by Telenor Srbija, with the support of Friedrich Naumann foundation, ICT Hub and the Embassy of Israel, was held on December 17 at the City Assembly in Belgrade. The best three teams estimated by jury, “Solagro”, “Timster” and “Two and a half Devs”, got the possibility of access to a special financial fund for further development of the best solutions worth 10.000€ and workspace for all team members in ICT Hub.
    The winning Solagro Team, a company made of young engineers, who work on the ideas and projects in the field of ecology and environmental protection, will travel to Tel Aviv, famous startup city and innovation hub. Solagro team has designed and patented mechanical crushers for PET packaging and application which enables users to easier locate the closest recycling bin.  
    H. E. Alona Fisher Kamm, Ambassador of Israel to Serbia, who was a part of the jury team, said that Israel is known for its nickname “Startup Nation” thanks to the global position of its high tech industry and the number of successful startups it produces.
    “We are happy to support innovative projects such as Smart City Challenge which will benefit everyday functioning of the city of Belgrade and other cities across Serbia. The winning team will have a chance to meet Israeli colleagues and mentors and to get the experience of working in a startup capital of Tel Aviv as well as other Israeli tech hubs”, Ambassador Fisher Kamm has emphasized.
    She said that Tel Aviv has been ranked the second best innovation ecosystem in the world by Startup Ecosystem Report 2015. The city has more than 5,000 startups and is first for density of startups per capita and second only to the Silicon Valley in total number of startups. “The Israeli Government created the first venture capital fund in the beginning of the 90’s and it sees the sector as of crucial national interest and vital importance for survival of the country,” she has explained.
