Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Yossef Levy hosted at his residence a
reception to mark the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. Serbia's Deputy Prime
Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic were among
the guests.
The Serbian government always has great pleasure in working with
Israel and hopes the cooperation will improve in the future, Vucic stated on
behalf of the government.
There is great friendship between the two nations, he stated,
wishing the Jewish people a happy Hanuakkah.
Levy noted he was glad he was celebrating Hanukkah in Serbia, since
the country was so close to his heart, and explained that Hanukkah is one of
the few joyous holidays in the Jewish calendar, a family holiday that dates
back 2,200 years and celebrates light and hope's victory over despair.
It is a Jewish holiday, but also an international one and it shows
that small nations can survive too if they wish it, that they can win and that
nothing can stop them in pursuing that victory, he stated.
