EL AL’s history begins at the same time as the history of the state of Israel, in 1948, when the government decided to establish a national airline conceived as an “airbridge” connecting Israel to the rest of the world.
In 1949 the first aircraft in the fleet connected Lod (today known as Ben Gurion Airport) to Rome and Paris. A year later the Israeli flag adorned flights to Nairobi and Johannesburg. In 1950, trans-Atlantic flights were inaugurated between Tel Aviv and New York with enroute stops throughout Europe. In 1980, EL AL inaugurated flights from Tel Aviv to Cairo. With the fall of the Iron curtain in Europe in 1990, EL AL began flights to Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia and other former USSR countries. From there, routes were opened to Beijing, Bangkok and Hong Kong in eastern Asia, New Delhi and Mumbai in India. Today EL AL offers non-stop flights from Israel to 44 destinations worldwide. EL AL is proud of the uncompromising professionalism of its employees in Israel and worldwide.
From Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Sarajevo and Podgorica passengers can connect to EL AL flights via Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Athens. Also, at passenger’s disposal are direct flights from Budapest to Tel Aviv operating five times per week. EL AL tickets can be purchased in Serbia through your travel agent or TAL Aviation office.
