The Israeli Embassy will provide support to Subotica's economic development, a brilliant place at a unique location, Israeli Ambassador in Serbia Yossef Levy said on Tuesday.
During his stay in Subotica, northern part of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Levy conferred with city officials on the possibilities for economic and cultural cooperation with Israel.
After the meeting with Subotica Mayor Jene Maglai and his associates, Levy promised that the Israeli Embassy would do all it can to ensure Subotica's economic growth.
He noted that he is impressed by the multiethnic and multicultural profile of the city and added that Subotica is a good example of co-existence of Serbs and other minorities.
Levy noted that the talks ended with an agreement that the Week of Israeli culture should be organised in Subotica.
Levy visited the reconstruction works at the Subotica synagogue and recalled that before World War II, Subotica was home to a very prosperous Jewish community which was later executed during the holocaust.
The Israeli Ambassador visited the Jewish municipality where he delivered a lecture to members of the Jewish community and other gathered citizens concerning the position of Israel in the circumstances of conflicts in the Near East.
