Centre, Dom omladine Belgrade and Embassy of Israel participate on the global celebration
of the 50 anniversary of the film “In Jerusalem” made by David Perlov.
“Footsteps in Jerusalem” is a tribute film to David Perlov, the forefather of
the Israeli modern documentary cinema and his film "In Jerusalem", 50
years after the film was first screened.
“Footsteps in
Jerusalem”, which includes Perlov’s original film and tribute films made by the
school’s best graduates and students, is a beautiful and moving piece of
cinematic work which brings to the screen a sober love for Perlov, for cinema
and for Jerusalem.
“Footsteps in
Jerusalem” is a tribute to David Perlov and to his 1963 revolutionary film “In
Jerusalem”, made a few years before the ‘67 war. The film, which won the bronze
medal at the Venice Film Festival in 1963, was produced at a time when
Jerusalem was divided between Jordan and Israel by “no‐man’s land” and sniper
fire. “In Jerusalem” offered a change from the “Zionist” patriotic,
propagandist and outdated cinema to a cinema that is personal‐artistic. It
paved the way for dozens of documentary filmmakers and for the success and
recognition Israeli documentary cinema receives worldwide today.
On Thursday,
12th of December 2013, ten years after Perlov’s passing, the film will be
screened as an international event at 50 selected location in Israel and worldwide:
Jerusalem, New York, Sao Paulo, Ein Harod, Cologne, Munich, Trivandrum,
Budapest, Copenhagen, Moscow, Tirana, Kathmandu, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Herzliya,
Holon, Sderot, Rosh Pina, Montreal, Lausanne, Seoul, Sofia, Barcelona, Madrid,
Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Skopje, Ljubljana, Lagos, Riga… and Belgrade
