The Embassy of Israel and Silpakorn University hosted a series of events on January 25-26, 2017 to mark the UN International Holocaust Memorial Day, a time that 6 million Jews and 5 million others were systematically murdered by the Nazi regime during World War II.

The screening of “Son of Saul”, the Oscar Award Winning Movie for Best Foreign Language Film 2016, was the first event held on Wednesday January 25. The screening was followed by a Q&A Panel Discussion with Mr. Yuval Waks, the Deputy Chief of Mission, the Embassy of Israel in Thailand.

On Thursday January 26, H.E. Mr. Simon Roded, the Ambassador of Israel to Thailand attended the “Corage to Remember” exhibition organized by Silpakorn University students. Through a series of paintings, graphics arts and installations, the exhibition provided a unique opportunity to explore the Holocaust memory in 3 main aspects, the “Holocaust of Innocence”, the “Smell of Fears” and the “Critical Thought and Lessons of the Holocaust”.

The “Music in the Shadow of Death”, a classical performance by an Israeli composer and pianist Dr. Amit Weiner, was the third event that commemorated the lives and music of the Jewish composers and musicians who were murdered in the Holocaust.
