The Opera Siam in cooperation with the Embassy of Germany and the Embassy of Israel present “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Grigori Frid on April 20 – 21, 2016.

Based on an original diary of a German-Jewish girl under Nazi occupation, Anne Frank was hiding with her family in an attic in Amsterdam from July 1942 until their arrest in August 1944.  On her 13th birthday, Anne Frank was given a diary in which she described her everyday life, what she saw, her different moods and emotions, her fear and loneliness.   In the 60-minute performance, her emotional pressure, profound thoughts, moral power and unbending will to live, hope for freedom and more humanity unfolds.  Special attention is dedicated to the characters who appear in Anne’s monologues but not in person: her father, her sister Margot and friends.

Anne was eventually transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where she eventually died of typhus in February or March of 1945, just weeks before the camp was liberated in April.  Her diary has become one of the most powerful memoirs of the Holocaust.

In June 1999, Time magazine included Anne Frank in the “Heroes & Icons” section of their special edition titled “Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century.”

Kaleigh Rae Gamache will take on the role of Anne Frank. Adrian Tan will conduct the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra for this poetic monoopera.

The shows will be performed in English at 19.00 on April 20, and at 14.00 and 19.00 on April 21 at Bangkok Art and Culture Center.
