President Revuen Rivlin, today (Monday, 3 November 2014), at his residence, hosted representatives of Israeli youth movements, to discuss efforts to combat violence and racism in Israel. The meeting was attended by the leaders, general secretaries and senior members of the various movements, who explained to the President, their efforts and activities aimed at tackling the problem.
The President told the representatives, “When there is a difference of opinion, it is democracy alone which can lead to an understanding - there are also rules when there is a dispute. With the understanding that the moment we do harm to the rules of democracy, to the rules of the game, there is no future for us to exist here as a people.”
The President reiterated to the youth movement leaders, “You, the youth sitting here today, you are the future of the State of Israel, and the hope of Israel’s democracy. I am proud and delighted to see here, representatives from all the movements, Beitar, HaShomer HaTzair, Bnei Akiva, Ezra, The Scouts, Dror Yisrael, Machanot HaOlim and many others. This forum, with its range of opinions, will be key to building the future of Israeli democracy."
