    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Statement by Consul General Opher Aviran regarding yesterday's attack
on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya

"I am personally deeply saddened by the horrendous attack on the U.S. Consulate and the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and three other American personnel in Benghazi, Libya yesterday.  We in the Israeli Foreign Service have also lost diplomats in terrorist attacks across the globe. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families.

This heinous attack came on the day America was mourning the nearly 3,000 people killed in terror attacks on 9/11.  Israel will always stand by the United States in the war against terror and in her aspiration to foster peace and security in all parts of the world."

Opher Aviran is the Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States. The Consulate's territory includes Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
