Members of the community gathered together in solidarity at Ahavath Achim Synagogue Tuesday evening in support of Israel and her right to defend herself against Hamas. Nearly one thousand Jews and Christians waved Israeli flags and cheered for Israel.
Atlanta's Mayor Kasim Reed told the crowd, "Tonight I came to speak from my heart to let you know that in Atlanta... we appreciate the unbreakable relationship between the United States and the great Nation that is Israel."
Other speakers included Consul General Opher Aviran, Christians United for Israel Georgia state director Pastor Jay Bailey and Jewish Federation CEO Michael Horowitz.
Consul General Aviran reminded the crowd that Israel is at war with Hamas, not the Palestinian people.
"After years of sustaining rocket fire on our people… After month after month of Israeli men, women and children living their daily lives in fear … the Israeli government has said enough is enough! We will not tolerate this constant assault on our people. We will no longer tolerate terrorists on our border trying to destroy our democratic and free way of life!"
