​Following the terrorist attack in Tel Aviv on Thursday 8 June 2016, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General Dore Gold sent a letter to 38 of his counterparts in foreign ministries around the world. In his letter, Dir-Gen Gold refers to attempts by radical terror organizations from ISIS to Hamas to exploit the Ramadan holiday for escalation, and points out that Palestinian willingness to forego terror and violence is the key to achieving peace.  

In his letter, Dir-Gen Gold stated:
 
Yesterday's [8 June] brutal terrorist attack in the heart of Tel Aviv had all the hallmarks of similar acts where gunmen opened fire on innocent civilians in Brussels, Nairobi, Paris and San Bernardino. Presently, many of the organizations involved in recent attacks from Daesh (ISIS) to al-Shabab to Hamas, admit they are seeking ways to exploit the period of Ramadan to bring about a new round of escalation that could affect all of our countries.

Dir-Gen Gold added:
 
The attack once again demonstrates that the principle obstacle to progress in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking is the Palestinian refusal to jettison all aspects of violence as an instrument of policy.
