HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS

  •
In addition to many NGOs, Geneva is home to the major humanitarian international organizations including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

The Mission of Israel in Geneva actively engages with this dynamic humanitarian community, through membership, financial contributions and the sharing of good practices. Israel stands ready to play a role in the global effort required to tackle the mounting humanitarian needs caused by massive movement of people, and by natural and man-made disasters.

Moreover, Israel has a unique experience in the successful integration of hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees from more than 130 countries, as well as significant expertise in assisting populations hit by natural catastrophes in different parts of the world. In addition, technological advances made by Israel throughout the years to cope with the lack of natural resources, in particular water, coupled with a booming start-up economy, can all be harnessed to provide solutions for pressing humanitarian needs.
