    ​The Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva is looking for a Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Adviser.

    ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
    An excellent opportunity for a dynamic, eloquent and highly motivated individual to play a key role in the Mission’s work and to contribute to promoting Israel’s position at the United Nations and other International Organizations. 

    The candidate will represent Israel and assist the diplomatic staff of the Mission in performing a wide range of tasks regarding human rights and humanitarian affairs. The job includes participating in multilateral meetings, in different organizations/mechanisms such as Human Rights Council, the Treaty Bodies, and humanitarian organizations such as UNHCR, IOM, ICRC, UNDRR among others.

    Moreover, it includes conducting analyses and advising on issues pertaining to human rights law, UN rules and procedures, refugee and migration law, andinternational humanitarian law. The candidate will assist in the drafting of a variety of texts including speeches, diplomatic notes, and will conduct analytical reports on thematic issues, representing the Permanent Mission in different groups of friends, governing bodies of international organizations and engage in negotiations of resolutions and decisions of international organizations, among others.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    • A university degree in law, international relations, political science or other related fields;
    • Excellent level of English, knowledge of other UN languages is a plus;
    • Proven experience in working on human rights;
    • Ability to produce succinct and accurate thematic analysis;
    • Firm understanding of current humanitarian affairs;
    • Knowledge regarding the challenges and human rights frameworks applicable to groups in vulnerable situations, such as children, LGBTIQ+, persons with disabilities, older persons, etc.
    • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills;
    • Creativity, flexibility and excellent communications skills;
    • Ability to work well in a high-pressure environment and meet tight deadlines and multitasking.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  

    • At least 2 years of experience in working on relevant areas, such as human rights, refugees, migrants, international humanitarian law, disaster risk reduction, among others
    • Experience of the UN or other multilateral/regional systems
    • Legal Knowledge, in particular on International Law, Human Rights Law and/or International Humanitarian Law.
    • Knowledge on gender and diversity frameworks.
