  • Ambassador Daniel Meron (L) and Director-General Tatiana Valovaya (R)

Ambassador Meron comes to Geneva after a distinguished diplomatic career in the Israeli Foreign Ministry. His recent roles include Deputy Director-General for European Affairs (2022-2024), Ambassador to the Czech Republic (2017-2021), and Special Envoy for Global Health during the COVID-19 pandemic (2021).

Ambassador Meron has a comprehensive understanding of the United Nations system. He previously served as the Head of the United Nations & International Organizations Bureau (2012-2017) and as the Director of the Department of Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (2003-2007). His career also includes roles such as Minister for Congressional Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington D.C., and Foreign Policy Advisor to Israeli President Ezer Weizman.

Upon presenting his credentials, Ambassador Meron stated, "I am honored to represent Israel at the United Nations in Geneva. In these challenging times, it is crucial to advance Israel's position in the multilateral arena and work towards peace and security. Since the brutal terrorist attack perpetrated by the Hamas terrorist organization on October 7, Israel has been brought into a war of self-defense on many fronts. My top priorities in this context will be to continue explaining Israel’s decisions, combating misinformation and bias, and ensuring the international community remains dedicated to bringing home the 120 hostages still held in Gaza. I am committed to fostering international cooperation and ensuring that Israel's voice is heard in global discussions.”
