Since October 7, 2023, the State of Israel is at war against the Hamas terrorist organization, which launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing over 1200 people, including children, and injuring over 5000 people. Hamas continues to fire indiscriminately at the Israeli population and calls for the annihilation of Israel.
It is under these extreme circumstances that Israel notified the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child that the relevant Government authorities and officials are currently engaged in the war effort against Hamas, and will therefore be unable to dedicate the necessary resources to prepare and appear before the Committee in January.
It is regrettable, but sadly not surprising, that the CRC does not convey understanding for Israel’s request to postpone its review before the Committee, due to the state of the war. It is also irresponsible for a treaty body to spread misinterpretations of the ICJ decision.
Just as it has failed to address the premeditated rape, torture, maiming, murder and abduction of Israeli children, two of them who are still held hostage in Gaza by the Hamas terrorist organization. The statement issued today demonstrates that the CRC has no real concern for the welfare and rights of Israeli children.
One can only wonder how the Committee expects to conduct a constructive dialogue with a State, when it has clearly already reached conclusions.
