Meirav Eilon Shahar appointed as new Ambassador of Israel to the UN in Geneva

  • Israeli Ambassador Meirav Eilon Shahar presenting her credentials to Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, UNOG Director-General, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva
     
    ​Today (27 August 2020), Ambassador Meirav EILON SHAHAR, the new Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, presented her credentials to Ms. Tatiana VALOVAYA, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, as well as to Mr. Karl BRAUNER, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

    Ambassador Eilon Shahar comes to Geneva after a distinguished diplomatic career with the Israeli Foreign Ministry, serving as Ambassador to Vietnam (2012-2017) and as Deputy Director-General for Coordination and Policy Planning (2017-2020).

    Commenting on her new role, Ambassador Eilon Shahar said, that "the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva present Israel with both great opportunities and challenges." She added "I am proud to represent Israel, and I will work to harness the potential for collaboration the multilateral arena offers, while bringing to the table the contributions Israel and Israelis can and are making to the Sustainable Development Goals."

    Her different posts included representing Israel as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Israel to the United Nations in New York (2005-2009), and heading the Department for United Nations Political Affairs at the Israeli MFA (2009-2012).
