Another day of shame at the UN HRC

Another day of shame at the Human Rights Council

    PRESS RELEASE

    Geneva (20 March 2017)

Today, the Human Rights Council once again gave the floor to Israel’s bashers under the abominable Item 7, an item that singles out Israel and discriminates Israelis, who do not enjoy the protection of the HRC. This happens while millions of Syrian, Iraqi and Yemeni citizens – women, children and old people – are fleeing their destroyed cities and homes; while Daesh and Hezbollah are expanding their terror networks in the Middle East, Africa and Europe; while North Korea and Iran are testing their ballistic capabilities; and the Hamas is continuously building attack tunnels and enlarging its rockets industry. This indifference to the Human Rights of Israelis and millions around the globe must immediately stop.

Session after session, the OHCHR weakens its credibility and wastes its limited resources of time, personnel and money in producing inflammatory and one-sided reports against Israel. Since its establishment in 2006, the Human Rights Council adopted 66 resolutions condemning Israel, compared with 83 other country resolutions.

Ambassador Aviva Raz Shechter, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN in Geneva, said: “The Human Rights Council is obsessed with Israel and continues to lose its standing.”

She added that “The item 7 discussions and related resolutions, as well as Michael Lynk’s report, should be treated the same way the latest ESCWA report was: disregarded and stopped.”

The Permanent Mission of Israel calls for the immediate abolition of Item 7, its related resolutions and the anti-Israel behavioral patterns across the UN system.
