Earlier today, Ambassador Aviva RAZ SHECHTER, the new Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Ambassador Raz Shechter comes to the post after a distinguished diplomatic career with the Israeli Foreign Ministry, serving as Deputy Director-General for the Middle East and Peace Process Division between 2011 and 2016.

Commenting on her new role, Ambassador Raz Shechter said: “It is an honor for me to represent Israel at the United Nations, here in Geneva, and to be the first Israeli woman diplomat to hold this important position”. She added that “the relationship between Israel and the UN is sometimes challenging, since some UN bodies and agencies have taken biased decisions. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to engaging with my colleagues and to highlight Israel’s positive contribution to the world”

Ambassador Raz Shechter joined the Israeli diplomatic service in 1988, while graduating from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Middle Eastern Affairs.

Her posts abroad include Amman (Jordan) and Washington D.C. (USA). From 2005 to 2011, Ambassador Raz Shechter held the position of Director of the Department for Combating Antisemitism and for Holocaust Issues.

Ambassador Raz Shechter speaks Hebrew, English, Arabic and French, and is the mother of three.

The Permanent Mission of Israel also has the pleasure of announcing the arrival of Mr. Yoel MESTER, Minister-Counselor & Deputy Permanent Representative, and of Mrs. Ronit ADIKA, Minister & Consul.
