President Reuven Rivlin today, (10 October 2018), continued his visit to Denmark and visited the
Novo Nordisk Foundation, an international fund based in Denmark that supports scientific and humanitarian endeavors.
The foundation has sponsored over 80 collaborations between Israeli and Danish researchers in the field of medicine and biotechnology.
The foundation’s other work with Israel include two research groups that are collaborations between the University of Copenhagen and the Weizmann Institute of Science, grants to support joint projects with the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School and the School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and 5 million Euros in grants for developing and implementing clinical trials at the Copenhagen University Hospital and the Hadassah Medical Center.
Lars Rebien Sørensen, chairman of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, told President Rivlin about the background to the creation of the fund, and its range of medical investments across the world. The president thanked the foundation’s leadership for the presentation and expressed his hope that the scientific and medical collaboration between researchers, scientists and entrepreneurs in the two countries would continue and develop.
Earlier in the day, Mayor of Copenhagen Frank Jensen and the head of the city’s regional development authority took President and Mrs. Rivlin on a river tour of the main areas of development in the city. During the meeting, the two described the main challenges facing the city and the plans to develop the city and its port in the coming years.
