President Rivlin departs on State Visit to Georgia

    Commenting on today’s terror attack, President Rivlin stated: “We had not thought for a moment that terror would not once again rear its ugly head, nor will we be broken this time either, but will continue to stand tall, and fight against terrorism.”

    As he departed for Georgia, President Reuven Rivlin this evening (Sunday, 8 January 2017) spoke this evening about the terror attack in Jerusalem today in which 4 soldiers were murdered and many others injured.
     
    “I am departing now on a state visit to Georgia though my heart remains in Israel, and it is a heavy heart indeed,” began the President. “I and Nechama send our support to the families who have lost those most dear to them, and offer strength to the injured being treated in hospital. On my return, I will visit the families.”
     
    He added, “We had not thought for a moment that terror would not once again rear its ugly head, nor will we be broken this time either, but will continue to stand tall, and fight against terrorism. I send my support to the security services, who are working all the time against this threat, and now especially.”
     
    Tomorrow (Monday), President Rivlin will commence his State Visit to Georgia with an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, after which he will hold working meetings with Georgia’s President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the Parliament.  On Tuesday, President Rivlin will meet with leaders of the Jewish community, and a lay a wreath at the national memorial, before returning back to Israel in the evening.
