(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint Yigal Unna as head of the Israel national cybersecurity agency in the Prime Minister's Office, pending Cabinet approval.

Unna, 46, currently serves as head of the Israel National Cyber Bureau http://www.pmo.gov.il/English/PrimeMinistersOffice/DivisionsAndAuthorities/cyber/Pages/default.aspx  (INCB) technologies unit. He came to the INCB after 29 years in the security services including combined SIGINT/cyber in intelligence, technology development, operations, and various staff positions, among others.  He served in IDF Intelligence (Unit #8200) and has held senior ISA management positions. From 2014-2017, he served as ISA head of SIGINT/cyber until his appointment as head of the INCB technologies unit this past June.

    Prime Minister Netanyahu:

"Yigal Unna has considerable experience in all cyber fields and in various defense establishment cyber units. I am convinced that he will bring his rich experience to the continued strengthening of the cyber bureau and in successfully dealing with complex security challenges.

I would like to thank Dr. Eviatar Matania who is concluding his tenure as head of the INCB after six years. Eviatar established the bureau and has contributed greatly to national security and turning Israel into a global cyber power. I wish Eviatar much success in the future.

I would also like to thank Buki Carmeli, head of the National Cyber Security Authority https://www.gov.il/en/Departments/national_cyber_security_authority , for creating the authority out of nothing and overseeing the start of operations of the national CERT. He responsibly and professionally managed many cyber events in Israel and led the process of receiving the responsibility, from the ISA, for critical infrastructures in the State of Israel."

Two weeks ago the Cabinet decided to unify the two cyber units – INCB and NCSA – into one agency that will have overall responsibility for civilian sector cyber defense, including policy formulation, building technological strength and operational cyber defense. Yigal Unna will head the unified agency.
