Israel and Greece to hold G2G meeting in Jerusalem

    Israel and Greece will on Wednesday, 27 January 2016, in Jerusalem, hold a government to government meeting, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
     
    Prime Minister Netanyahu and six of his ministers will host Greek Prime Minister Tsipras and six of his ministers for a series of discussions and signings of bilateral agreements, the goal of which is to continue strengthening bilateral relations in foreign affairs, economic cooperation, innovation, energy, the environment, tourism, transportation, maritime relations, the maintenance of public order, civil defense and the war on terrorism.
     
    The prime ministers and their ministers will sign cooperation agreements on shipping, water, work visas for young people and the recognition of Israeli drivers' licenses.
     
    This is the second G2G meeting between Israel and Greece the first was in Jerusalem in October 2013.
     
    Greek Prime Minister Tsipras made an official visit to Israel in November 2015 (click here and here for details). The second G2G meeting reflects the deep friendship between the two countries and the importance they ascribe to the continued strengthening of bilateral strategic relations.
     
    The G2G meeting is being held to mark the 25th anniversary of the upgrading of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Among the objectives of the meeting are: Further establishing top level ties; tightening bilateral strategic relations, evaluation the possibility of exporting natural gas to Europe via Greece, anchoring the plan for bilateral cooperation on innovation, forming bilateral working groups for joint discussions on socio-economic issues in order to spur economic growth, and the signing of joint agreements.
     
    On Thursday, 28 January, Prime Ministers Netanyahu and Tsipras will leave for Nicosia, Cyprus for a trilateral summit. Prime Minister Netanyahu, Greek Prime Minister Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will hold a series of discussions on trilateral partnership and regional interests of common concern.
