    (Communicated by the President's Spokesperson)

President Reuven Rivlin, this morning (Sunday 11 October 2015) sent a letter of condolence to President Erdogan of Turkey, following the mass-casualty terrorist attack that took place yesterday in the city of Ankara.

In his letter, President Rivlin said he was, "Shocked and saddened to learn of the vicious attacks yesterday morning in Ankara which targeted people seeking peace."

He added that, "On behalf of the people of Israel, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to Your Excellency, to the people of Turkey and to its leaders.

"We all, throughout the world, but particularly in our region, face the threat of terrorism which attacks indiscriminately, killing and wounding the innocent.  We must stand united in the fight against those who promote the use of violence rather than dialogue and continue to destroy the lives of so many. I believe that you share my hopes for a better and more secure future for all the peoples of our region.

"Please convey my deepest sympathy to the bereaved families and our wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured."
