One year after the terror
attack on an Israeli diplomat in New Delhi, the Ambassador of Israel to
India, Mr. Alon Ushpiz, issued the following statement:
One year ago, in the heart of New Delhi, Mrs. Tal Yehoshua Koren, an Israeli
diplomat, a friend and a colleague, on her way to pick up her two children from
school, was targeted by Iranian Government agents who attempted to assassinate
her. Tal is still suffering from her wounds. Her driver and two innocent
bystanders, all Indian citizens, were also injured.
In the days, weeks and months following this terrorist action, we were
embraced by a wave of support and friendship from the Government and the people
of India. We are grateful for this and for the security that the Indian
authorities provide us.
Immediately after the attack, the External Affairs Minister of India assured
the Israeli leadership that the culprits will be brought to justice at the
earliest, that the law of the land will take its course and that India will
continue with the investigation.
Following a thorough investigation, the Delhi Police made one arrest and
issued arrest warrants against the four Iranian culprits who have escaped. It is
understood that the Iranian authorities did not provide answers to Indian
officials who traveled to Tehran to gather information about these suspects.
This terrorist action is yet another chapter in a well-documented campaign of
the Iranian Government to kill Jews, Israelis and especially Israeli diplomats,
around the world: from Buenos Aires to New Delhi, from Bangkok to Baku. This
Iranian record highlights the danger of the murderous terrorists returning to
the scenes of the crime.
The terrorists who committed this heinous attack and the Government of Iran
that sent them, must be made accountable.
