On Thursday afternoon (22 August 2013) a barrage of four rockets was fired at the civilian communities of northern Israel. One of the rockets was successfully intercepted by the Iron Dome battery of the active missile defense system between Akko and Nahariya. Two other rockets landed in populated areas causing damage, but no injuries.

Israel holds the Government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces as the responsible bodies for this attack.

IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai: “The rockets were launched by the Global Jihad terror organization. An Iron Dome battery was pre-positioned in northern Israel earlier this month following situation assessments. The IDF is closely following all the developments in the region.”

In response to the rocket fire, the IAF targeted a terror site located between Beirut and Sidon. The IAF pilots reported direct hits on the target.
