DepFM Elkin meets Greek and Lithuanian counterparts

    DFM Elkin expressed his hope that Israel’s isolated position at the UN Human Rights Council will change once Lithuania has assumed the Presidency of the European Union.

    Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zeev Elkin met onThursday (30 May 2013) with Lithuanian Vice Foreign Minister Neris Germanas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.

    Deputy FM Elkin thanked his Lithuanian counterpart for attending the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism, and stated that his attendance at this important event is much appreciated in Israel. DFM Elkin updated Vice FM Germanas regarding Israel’s isolated position at the UN Human Rights Council, and expressed his hope that this situation will change once Lithuania has assumed the Presidency of the European Union.

    At their meeting, Deputy FM Elkin thanked FM Avramopulos for Greek cooperation in preventing the provocative flotillas of the last two years, and requested Greek support in adding the Hezbollah to the European Union’s list of terror organizations. DFM Elkin also expressed his concern regarding the escalating issue of product marking. DFM Elkin noted the strong relationship between the two countries, as expressed by bilateral cooperation on several major issues, and stated his hope that this cooperation would intensify.
