Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin met on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 with Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos in the framework of the Israel-Greece Government-to-Government meetings held in Jerusalem.

In the course of the meeting, Deputy FM Elkin explained the problematic nature of the guidelines published by the European Union last summer, which in effect preclude continued Israeli cooperation with the EU. Greek FM Venizelos expressed his support for the Israeli position, and noted that he has appealed to High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton on the matter. This support is very important as Greece will hold the Presidency of the EU during the first half of 2014.
