Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan to visit Israel

    The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, will lead a delegation to visit Israel on 21-23 April.
    During the visit, Foreign Minister Mammadyarov will hold meetings with several personalities: the President of Israel, Shimon Peres, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Benjamin Netanyahu, The President of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin, Chairman of the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, Avigdor Liberman, the Head of the National Security Council Yaakov Amidror, and other senior officials.
    The discussions with FM Mammadyarov will focus on improving bilateral relations in the political, economic, energy, trade and cultural areas. Visits to hi-tech companies will explore cooperation possibilities in that sphere.
    Discussions will also address the Middle East peace process, as well as cooperation between Azerbaijan and Israel in international fora, as Azerbaijan is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
    Foreign Minister Mammadyarov and his delegation will also meet with the members of Azerbaijani community in Israel and the Jewish community in Azerbaijan.
    Azerbaijan and Israel have had warm and friendly relations since the accession of the former to independence in the early 1990's.
