    ​The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be held between September 7 to September 18 2016 using the same facilities and under the same organizing committee as the Rio 2016 Olympics.
     
    The athletes will begin to arrive in Rio on August 30 and will stay in the Olympic Village. The entire Israeli delegation will reach Rio by September 5, two days before the start of the Games.
     
    The Israeli delegation to the Paralympic Games is comprised of a total of 30 athletes (15 women and 15 men) who will be competing in 11 sports categories. In total, 4,350 athletes from 178 countries competing in 23 categories will participate in the 2016 Paralympic Games.

    "I am proud of our athletes and I'm sure they are ready and have a strong desire to represent their country in the best way. We have a great team, determined and talented," says Dani Ben Abu, Chairperson of the Israeli National Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation to Rio. "I'm sure that the competition will not be easy and there will be challenges. I wish you all success in the Games and hope that Rio is, for you, a sports-related, social and cultural experience, forever remaining in your memories".

    The first time Israel participated in the Paralympic Games was in the Rome 1960 Olympics, and since then Israeli athletes have won 380 medals (124 gold, 124 silver and 132 bronze).
    Israel's participation in the Paralympic Games:
     
    Tel Aviv hosted the 1968 Paralympic Games, in which Israel won 62 medals (18 gold) and was in 3rd place in the medals table. Currently, Israel is in the 19th place among the countries that have participated in the Paralympic Games.
    The Paralympic athlete who has achieved the most success to date is Zipora Rubin-Rosenbaum, who between 1964 and 1988 won 21 medals, including 11 gold. The second most successful athlete is Uri Bergman, who from 1976 to 1988 won 12 medals (11 gold).
