It is a well-known fact that the residents of Tel Aviv love dogs! In recognition of this, and for the first time in Israel, the
Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has organized a city-wide celebration of a special day for dogs, to be held on August 26, 2016.
Nominating itself as the friendliest city in the world for dogs, Tel Aviv boasts 1 dog for every 17 residents, making it the city with the highest number of dogs per capita in the world.
This trend has been cultivated for some time. For the benefit of the city’s 25,000 canine friends (not to mention their owners and mere passersby), Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality has designated 70 public dog parks, a total of 1.3 dog parks for every 1 square kilometer. Not only that, Tel Aviv has also allocated special dog-friendly beaches where dogs can romp freely through the waves and on the shore without bothering other – human - bathers.
The city-wide dog day celebration will be celebrated at the Bnei Dan Dog Park with many canine-friendly "treats". The main attractions for the city's 4-legged residents include:
- A display of startups founded in Tel Aviv that serve dogs and their owners
- Unique products for doggie birthdays
- Sushi for dogs
- Dog Spa
Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality sets dogs' welfare at high-priority and provides 24/7 veterinarian services for homeless animals. The city operates a special animal patrol which checks complaints regarding animal abuse and also organizes many activities for dogs and their owners. Just last month the municipality held a special screening of the movie "The Secret Life of Pets," which was thoroughly enjoyed by many dogs and their owners. Needless to say, the city-run dog shelter is a no-kill shelter.
