Essentially a one-day holiday, Purim celebrations have recently become a weeklong tradition spiced with costumes and a festive buzz. The main attraction, the street party, usually takes places in Kikar Hamedina, the largest plaza in Tel Aviv. This free carnival attracts thousands of people who take to the streets and gather in celebration, in an attempt to drown the stresses of daily life with great music, various stalls, spicy cocktails and plenty of dancing. Other major party spots include Shaul Hamelech Blvd, which hosts the annual parade, Jaffa Port’s Hangar 1, with live musical performances, and the square in front of Beit Ariela for a colorful street party. The festivities will officially take place on the weekend of March 24-27, 2016 all around the city.

The Felicja Blumental Music Festival will take place from April 4-9 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, featuring the young and unknown as well as established artists, ensembles and orchestras.  Although Tel Aviv has always been well known for its classical music activities, this festival combines, in one intense and exciting week, chamber, orchestral and vocal music, as well as films, plays and folk music.

The Fresh Paint Contemporary Art Fair holds its annual event in Tel Aviv this year from April 5-9 in galleries citywide. Yhe largest and most influential annual art event in Israel, attracting over 30,000 visitors every year. The fair brings together art lovers, artists, and art professionals, and allows the public to purchase art works by the finest contemporary artists.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year opens at the Eretz Israel Museum Tel Aviv on April 14, the initiative of London's Museum of Natural History and the BBC Worldwide, comprises a hundred striking photographs selected in an international competition, which display moments of life, action, and survival in the animal kingdom in all corners of the world. Parallel to this, the Museum organized a local competition among nature photographers in Israel. The winning photographs are shown in a new exhibition, alongside the international one alongside the best work of experienced and well-known Israeli nature photographers.

On April 20-21, just days before Passover, Israel will host its first-ever Flower Show at Shuk Hanamal in the Tel Aviv Port area. Celebrating Israel’s agricultural and horticultural riches, Shuk Hanamal market will host dozens of flower growers from across the country selling potted plants and herbs, hundreds of types of cut flowers, bouquets, plant seeds and more, with other vendors displaying and selling products such as decorative garden accessories, hand-made ornaments and gifts.

The Yiddish International Festival will take place from April 23-25 at the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater. Generally held during Passover holiday, the festival is a celebration of Yiddish traditional music.

Tel Aviv's beaches will open for the 2016 bathing season on May 9. Some of them have even earned the Blue Flag status, recognizing them for their environmental distinction. Some hot spots to look out for include Gordon beach with its volleyball activities, the Dolphinarium beach on Fridays has capoeira and an improvised drumming festival, LGBT community enjoy the Hilton Beach while the religious bathers attend the Nordau Beach and have gender specific bathing times.
