Ben Gurion International Airport was once again ranked in the top 10 best international airports as part of the “World’s Best Awards” survey by
Travel+Leisure readers. This year BGIA reached the 8th spot, ahead of Amsterdam’s Schiphol and Abu Dhabi’s international airport.
The readers rated international airports (those located outside of the United States) on the criteria of access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping, and design.
In 2016 alone, around 18 million passengers passed through the terminals of Ben-Gurion Airport.
Travel + Leisure is a New York based magazine and is one of the most respected publications for the upscale traveler. Every year for the “World’s Best Awards” survey, the magazine asks its readers to weigh in on their travel experiences around the globe and to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines and more.
Currently in construction, the new Ilan and Assaf Ramon International Airport is expected to open near Timna in early 2018. The airport will have a potential capacity of over 2 million passengers and will serve as an international gateway to Eilat and the south of Israel.
Singapore’s Changi Airport took the top spot in this year’s top 10 list. Most of the airports on the list are located in Asia and the Middle East, with only two European airports achieving top ranking.
