Israel marathon season begins January 2014

    The first of the Israeli marathons in 2014 is the 37th International Tiberias Marathon which will be held on January 10, 2014 around the Sea of Galilee.

    International Tiberias Marathon - January 10, 2014

    The first of the Israeli marathons to be held in 2014 is as early as January with the International Tiberias Marathon on January 10. The 37th International Tiberias Marathon will be held on January 10th, 2014 around the Sea of Galilee.  The “lowest” full marathon in the world is some 200 meters below sea level in the Jordan Valley and measures 42.195 km on a flat and fast asphalt course. The Marathon course follows the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee set against breathtaking rustic landscape, and winding through ancient historical landmarks in the Jordan Valley. It is an out and back course, from the main streets of Tiberias along the Sea of Galilee, crossing the Jordan River up to the turning point at Kibbutz Ein- Gev and back to Tiberias.


    Israman, Ironman Race Eilat - January 17, 2014

    Israman, the grueling Iron Man competition that is ranked as one of the top 10 most challenging long triathlons in the world, will take place on January’s full-moon Friday, January 17, 2014 in the coastal resort town of Eilat, Israel. The full Israman competition includes a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride followed by a 42.2 km run and, for those looking for a lesser but still formidable challenge, the Half Israman includes a 1.8 km swim, a 90 km bike ride and a 21.1 km run.


    The Ein Gedi Experience - Half Marathon at the lowest point on earth and the Masada Run - 7-8 February 7-8, 2014

    The International Ein Gedi race (February 7-8, 2014) in memory of Giora and Tomer Ron attracts international and local athletes, drawn by the unique combination of breathtaking views, sporting atmosphere and the altitude - the lowest place on earth. In addition to the Half Marathon, there will also be a 10 km walk and run and a 2km race for children.

    The Masada Race, a 2.5 km rocky path that climbs the 300m ascent up to the top of Masada ending with 750 steep stone steps, will also take place during the weekend. The Masada Run is Israel’s answer to challenging races such as the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State building run-up and the Mount Fuji Mountain Race- but here the destination is a 2,000 year old desert fortress.

    Surrounding the half marathon race will be a professional 3-day training camp in advance of Spring 2014 international marathons: Tel Aviv / Jerusalem / Rome / Paris / London.


    Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon - February 28, 2014

    35,000 runners are expected to partake in the Tel-Aviv Samsung Marathon events on February 28, 2014, one of the leading international running events in Israel.The marathon is already a tradition and is one of the key international events in Tel Aviv. The runners will be offered a unique urban course, passing through every central street of the city, in order to allow the tens of thousands running and participating a unique running experience, including the most attractive sites and streets of the city.  The course has been designed to highlight the best of Tel Aviv which is an official UNESCO World Heritage site and as such runners will pass Dizengoff Street, Rothschild Avenue, the Azrieli Towers, Rabin Square, the renovated boardwalk next to the sea and more.

    Jerusalem Winner Marathon - March 21, 2014

    Following the success of the third International Jerusalem Winner Marathon in March 2013 in which over 20,000 runners from more than 54 nations participated, plans are well underway for the 2014 International Jerusalem Marathon on 21 March. The events include a full marathon, a half-marathon, a 10Km race and a 4.2 Km run – all of which pass through Jerusalem’s unique landscape, rich in history, religion and culture.

    The Jerusalem marathon offers runners the chance to compete in a setting of unparalleled natural and cultural beauty unlike any other international marathon course.  The topography of the city lends itself to a challenging route that will test even the most experienced of runners.  At the same time, the course takes the runner on a unique path through Jerusalem’s 2000 year historical narrative, on the cobblestones of the ancient and holy walled city of Jerusalem and through the modern city center of Israel’s capital. The course includes the city’s best known sites including, among others, the Knesset, the Old City, Sultan's Pool, Mount Zion, the German Colony, the Jerusalem Promenade and the Mount of Olives.
