Miki Hayat dresses in the ultra-Orthodox style, with a white shirt, black pants and ritual fringes, with a black hat on his head. Yet he says that he and his brother Yehuda love the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira because “People can be who they really are. There are no masks or costumes hiding your identity.”

That’s just one reason why the Hayats are teaching the art - a mix of dance, acrobatics and martial arts - to children in their community. It also encourages the kids “to respect one another and to accept the other. It is possible for us to study Torah from the morning through the night and then come and do some Capoeira and then return to our studies.”

See the brothers in action in the studio and on the streets of Jerusalem.
