Ace of Cakes: Chef Duff in Israel

  •
Chef Duff, the American celebrity baker, is here for the week to see what culinary opportunities and sights Israel has to offer.

Jeffrey Adam Goldman, also known as Chef Duff, is a famous American pastry chef and TV food personality. Today, he’s one of the most sought-after decorative cake makers in the US, and has gained a reputation for jaw-dropping and stunning custom cakes and candies.
From a Dr. Seuss-inspired seven-layer cake to Harry Potter’s castle cake or an emoji cake, Duff and his team can make it.  As they promise, “If you can imagine it, we can create it”.

Chef Duff arrived to Israel on Saturday (12 August 2017) for a 6-day visit.

Jeffrey Adam Goldman started cooking when he was just 4 years old, and then went off to study art in college, a fact that  makes a perfect sense when you see his creations.

In 2000, Duff opened his own bakery, Charm City Cakes, in Baltimore, Maryland, and the word about his unusual and daring cakes got out. Press coverage of Duff and his team snowballed, and his list of clients just kept on growing.

Duff’s staff is far more artistic than the staff of a typical bakery, since his policy is to hire artistic types, bakers that are also painters, architects or sculptors. Some of the cakes the team makes take up to 29 hours to build!

After participating in several TV food series and competitions, the American Food Network tapped Chef Duff and his fellow bakers at Charm City Cakes to star in a reality show of their own, Ace of Cakes. After 6 years and 10 seasons, the show - which went off the air back in 2011 - is still widely popular in the US and in over 40 countries worldwide.

While in Israel, Duff will try to cover as many places of interest as possible, from the Sea of Galilee to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the Dead Sea.

Last Tuesday (15 August 2017), escorted by Israeli celebrity chef Gil Hovav, Duff went on a tour of Tel Aviv’s colorful Levinsky Market for an introduction to some traditional Mediterranean flavors. Duff will also be visiting a baking workshop for students from the Cookieot program - a unique initiative of Tel Aviv Municipality's Department for the advancement of children and youth.  A bakery and pastry shop, Cookieot’s goal is to empower young people who have dropped out of formal educational frameworks. Not only do the teenagers who work here make everything themselves - they also manage all aspects of the bakery.
