Israeli lawyer elected to UN Human Rights Committee

    Professor Yuval Shany, an Israeli lawyer of international renown - was elected today to serve on United Nations Human Rights Committee. This marks the end of a year-long diplomatic campaign carried out by Israel's UN Mission. It is a major achievement for Israel at the UN and a cause for national pride.
     
    Ambassador Prosor commented, "This is further proof that Israel can achieve impressive results at the UN, even in the face of difficult conditions. Ever since I started in this position, we have set a goal of bringing Israel's knowledge and expertise to the UN and incorporating Israelis into key positions. Today we celebrate another achievement in that regard."

    ​Professor Yuval Shany, 43, is the Dean of the Law Faculty at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he also  holds the Hersch Lauterpacht Chair in Public International Law. Shany received his LL.B. in Law, Cum Laude, from the Hebrew Univeristy (1995), an L.L.M. in International Legal Studies from the New York University School of Law (1997), and a Ph.D. in International Law from the University of London (2001).
