(Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN in Geneva)
November 29 is a historic day in the United Nations' involvement with Israel.
On November 29, 1947, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 calling for the establishment of two states in Palestine, the Jewish state becoming the State of Israel.
On November 29, 2013, the United Nations corrected a historical wrong. After decades of discrimination during which Israel was the only member country of the United Nations denied membership in a Regional Group, Israel will become, as of January 1st 2014, a member of the Western European and Others Group in Geneva at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
This long-overdue decision brings Geneva in line with the
decision made 13 years ago in New York, to admit Israel into WEOG.
