Weizmann Institute ranks 10th in research quality

    From the beginning of the decade, when the Weizmann Institute was a merely respectable 19th in the Leiden Ranking (after three non-American institutes), it has risen to 10th place.

    The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot has been ranked 10th in an international research ranking. The ranking is conducted by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University, the Netherlands. The Weizmann Institute is the only one of the top ten research institutes that is outside the US.

    The CWTS Leiden Ranking is based on numeric indicators alone, rather than question-based surveys. That includes publishing statistics for the scientists of the various universities and citation data for these papers - which reflect the quality of the papers. These numbers are weights accorded to the size of the research institute or university.

    This rank reflects a significant rise in the quality of Weizmann Institute researchers in the last decade, 2006-2015. From the beginning of the decade, when the Weizmann Institute was a merely respectable 19th in the Leiden Ranking (after three non-American institutes), it has risen to 10th place.

    Additional numbers:

    •    19% of the research papers published by Weizmann Institute scientists are ranked in the top 10% of scientific papers for impact.
    •    21.4% of papers by Weizmann Institute scientists in the life sciences and medicine are ranked in the top 10% for impact.
    •    2.4% of the Institute's scientific articles are ranked in the first percentile for highest scientific impact, and 64.7% were in the top half for the impact factor.
    •    Publications of Weizmann institute scientists were cited 27,859 times in the period of the survey: 2006-2015    
     
    The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, is one of the world's top-ranking multidisciplinary research institutions.
