    A Week of Terror: January 22-27, 2002

  • On Monday, January 22, 2002 (16:20), two women were killed and 40 people injured when a Palestinian terrorist opened fire with an M-16 assault rifle near a bus stop on Jaffa Road in downtown Jerusalem.
By the end of February, Shayna Gould, a 19-year-old American student given a 3 percent chance of surviving the attack, was healthy enough to fly home to Skokie, Illinois, in good health, good spirits, and accompanied by an Israeli-Arab doctor who saved her life.
  • On Friday, January 25, 2002 (11:15), 25 people were wounded when a Palestinian suicide bomber detonated a bomb outside a cafe on a pedestrian mall near Tel Aviv's old central bus station.
  • On Sunday, January 27, 2002 (12:20), one person was killed and over 150 wounded in a suicide bombing at the entrance to a shoe store on Jaffa Road, in the center of Jerusalem - almost at the same place as the shooting attack on January 22. Both were just meters from the Sbarro pizzeria bombed on August 9, 2001.
