IDF forces fired a tank shell at terrorists who were approaching the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip region, apparently in an attempt to plant an explosive device in the area and execute an attack against IDF soldiers.
In a recent previous incident near the area, an explosive device was detonated against IDF soldiers who were carrying out a routine activity. No injuries to the IDF forces were reported. Two weeks ago, the IDF prevented the infiltration of terrorists through the security fence into Israeli territory. After the suspects failed to heed to warnings by IDF soldiers, the force opened fire.
Terrorist operatives operate near the security fence every day in order to plant explosive devices, plan terrorist attacks and attempt to abduct IDF soldiers. Their presence near the security fence perimeter endangers Israeli citizens and security forces in the area. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for keeping the Gaza Strip calm and for any terrorist activity emanating from it.
