Earlier this morning (Friday, 6 March 2015), five Israelis, including four policewomen from the Border Police, were wounded after being deliberately hit by a car.

The attack took place near a Border Police base in northern Jerusalem on Shimon HaTzadik Street, which was also the site of a November 5 hit and run terror attack that killed one border police officer and injured 13 people. After hitting the group of officers, the Palestinian continued driving 200-300 meters to the light rail station on Road 1, where he hit a bicyclist - a 51-year-old Israeli man.

Shortly afterwards, the terrorist, later identified as a resident of Ras al-Amud in East Jerusalem, exited his vehicle and tried to attack passers-by with a butcher knife. He was shot by a Border Guard at the scene and was evacuated to hospital. 

In accordance to Jewish tradition, the Purim holiday is being celebrated in Jerusalem today, one day later than in most of Israel and the rest of the world. Jerusalem's streets are packed with children in costume and other revelers.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat responded to the attack, saying: "We will not let terror disrupt our daily lives. I would like to commend the security personnel, the police and alert citizens who quickly brought the event to an end and prevented further injuries. Our response to terror is to continue our daily lives, and all Purim events in the capital will continue as planned . Security throughout the entire city will be increased."
