Arrest of a wanted Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades operative

    Muzid Ahmed Husein Sawafta, an Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and Force 17 operative, was arrested by the Israel Security Agency and a special Israeli Police force in Ramallah last night, October 4, 2004.

    Sawafta, 27, originally from the village of Bardale, wanted by the Israeli security forces for several years, had been in hiding in the area of the Mukata in Ramallah.

    List of attacks in which Sawafta was involved:

    * Suicide bombing attack in King George Street in Jerusalem on March 23, 2002, in which three Israeli civilians were murdered and 35 others were injured. Sawafta provided the explosive belt to the suicide bomber and attached it the suicide bombers body.

    * Sawafta provided the explosive belt to be used in a suicide bombing attack thwarted in A- Ram in March 2002 by the arrest of the suicide bomber as he attempted to enter Israel.

    * Shooting attack on road 443 on December 21, 2000 in which an Israeli civilian was murdered.

    * Numerous shooting attacks against IDF forces in the area of Ramallah.
