(Communicated by the ISA)
The following has been cleared for publication:
Early this morning (Thursday, 13 December 2018), following an accelerated intelligence and operational effort by the Israel Security Agency, in conjunction with the IDF and the Israel Police, terrorist Ashraf Naalowa was killed in the course of an attempt to arrest him. Naalowa carried out the 7 October 2018 shooting attack in the Barkan Industrial Zone in which
Kim Levengrond-Yehezkel and
Ziv Hajbi were murdered, and another Israeli citizen was moderately wounded. Naalowa was armed when security forces came to his hideout.
The finding of Naalowa, which was carried out by the ISA, IDF and Israel Police anti-terror unit, was the culmination of a ramified intelligence effort led by the ISA, and which included various intelligence, operational and technological capabilities. The ISA investigated several suspects who had aided – or were aware of – Naalowa's activity. Several suspects have already been tried.
From the investigation of the detainees it was learned that Naalowa intended to carry out another attack, which was thwarted by this morning's action.
Security forces will continue to take determined action to deal with terrorists and their accomplices to the fullest extent of the law and to guard the security of the citizens of the State of Israel.
