In the first direct hit on an Israeli target since the recent escalation in rocket fire from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, a paint factory in the Sderot industrial area was struck and burned to the ground when the paint canisters caught on fire. Four workers who were inside the factory when the rocket struck managed to escape. Two were taken to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon suffering from light burns.

On Friday evening, six rockets were fired into from Gaza into Israeli territory and a mortar shell exploded near the border fence between Gaza and Israel. Two of the rockets fired were shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile system while the other four fell in open areas in the Eshkol Regional Council. On Saturday evening, six rockets and two mortars fired at Israel. Three of the rockets hit the Eshkol Regional Council and an additional rocket hit the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.

In response to these attacks, an IAF aircraft targeted two terror activity sites, a weapons-manufacturing facility and a weapons-storage facility in Gaza. Direct hits were confirmed.

For more than a week, Gaza terrorists have continued to fire rockets at Israel. The attacks are increasing the rocket threat against southern communities, forcing the IDF to act in defense of innocent civilians. Although Israel’s Iron Dome Missile Defense system stops some of the attacks, most rockets are capable of reaching Israel’s major southern cities. More than half a million Israelis have less than 60 seconds to find shelter after a rocket is launched from Gaza into Israel.
