Israel submits letter on rocket fire from Gaza on opening of school year

    Excellency,

This week, Israel's children started their school year with the all-too-familiar sounds of sirens and explosions, as terrorists in Gaza fired six more rockets into their communities.

While Israel's schoolchildren were taking cover in bomb shelters, the UN released yet another biased report about Gaza. Apparently, the roar of rockets flying out of Gaza has not reached the deaf ears of the UN agencies that produced this report. They conveniently failed to mention that Hamas has brutally hijacked Gaza and deliberately targets Israeli civilians in relentless rocket attacks. A group of researchers on the moon could have easily produced a more balanced and accurate document about Gaza.

The truth is plain and simple: Hamas is responsible for the suffering in Gaza. Hamas is the real obstacle to peace and prosperity in our region. And it is high time for the Security Council and all other bodies of the United Nations to speak loudly and clearly against the violence that Hamas and other terrorists in Gaza continue to unleash on the children of our region, Israelis and Palestinians alike.

Israel expects the Security Council and all responsible members of the international community to condemn this campaign of terror without any further delay. How many more rockets must fall on the children of Israel before the Security Council utters a syllable?

Israel holds the Hamas terrorist organization fully responsible for all attacks emanating from Gaza. Israel will continue to exercise its right to self-defense, as appropriate, and will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens.

I should be grateful if you would have this letter distributed as an official document of the Security Council. I wish to inform you that an identical letter has been sent to H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Allow me, Excellency, to renew to you the assurances of my highest consideration.

    Yours truly,

    Ron Prosor
