Opening roads and improving accessibility in West Bank

    IDF and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Unit (COGAT) have made an effort to facilitate Palestinian movement throughout the area by reopening six important roadways.

    The terror attacks of the Second Intifada forced Israel to close roadways in Judea and Samaria during this difficult period, specifically in high-risk zones. Lately, in light of increased stability and calm in the region, the IDF and COGAT have made an effort to facilitate Palestinian movement throughout the area by reopening six important roadways.

    • Shomronim Barrier.
    The removal of the Shomronim Barrier opened the road connecting the Shomronim neighborhood to the city of Nablus. The barrier was removed in March 2012.

    • Shofa Izbat Shofa Barrier.
    The removal of the Shofa Izbat Shofa Barrier opened the road connecting Shofa and Izbat Shofa to the city of Tulkarem. The barrier was removed in April 2012.

    • Zvata Barrier.
    The removal of the Zvata Barrier opened the road connecting the village of Zvata to the city of Nablus. The barrier was removed in March 2012.

    • Sha'ar Gilazun Barrier.
    The removal of the Sha'ar Gilazun Barrier enabled access to the old Road 60 connecting Ramallah and northern Judea and Samaria. The barrier was removed in April 2012.

    • Ariel Salfit Barrier.
    The removal of the Ariel Salfit Barrier opened the road connecting Salfit directly to Road 60. The barrier was removed in March 2012.

    • Beit Dajan Barrier.
    The removal of the Beit Dajan Barrier opened the road connecting the village of Beit Dajan to the cities of Balta and Nablus. The barrier was removed in April 2012.

    The Civil Administration promotes numerous projects designed to improve the welfare of the population in Judea and Samaria. The opening of the roadways is just one of dozens of improvements that the Civil Administration is advancing.
