    Meir Porush was born in Jerusalem in 1955.
    He served in the IDF and studied at a Talmudic college. He served as Director of Agudat Israel Offices in Jerusalem, was for 13 years a Member of the Jerusalem Municipal Council, and served as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, responsible for the portfolio on improving the city and on Orthodox Education. He is married and has 12 children.

    He has been a Member of Knesset since 1996, serving as a member of the Finance Committee, the House Committee, the Labor, Welfare, and Health Committee, the Finance Committee, the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee, and the Committee on Drug Abuse. He was also Chairman of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Continuing Financial Crisis of the Local Governments.

    Meir Porush served as Deputy Minister of Housing in 1995, and from June 2001 until February 2003 as Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction. In April 2009 he was appointed Deputy MInister of Education, serving until February 2013. In May 2015 he was again appointed Deputy Minister of Education.
