    Haim Katz was born in Germany in 1947 and immigrated to Israel in 1949. He completed his army service with the rank of Master Sergeant and is an electronics technician by profession. He is married and the father of three.

    He served as a member of the council of Israel Aircraft Industries Workers (from 1983), and chairman of the representation of technicians and engineers. From 1993, he served as secretary of the National Workers Union of Israel Aircraft Industries and from 1996 as chairman of the policy-making staff of the Israel Labor Union (Histadrut) regarding pension funds. In 1997 he was elected a
    member of the Board of the Football Union.

    Haim Katz has been a Member of Knesset sincd 1999, serving among others most notably as Chair of the Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee and a member of the Science and Technology Committee and the Finance Committee. In the 19th Knesset he was also Chair of the Lobby for the encouragement, strengthening, and support of discharged soldiers, and a member of the Lobby for Children and Youth at Risk, the Lobby for Holocaust Survivors, the Lobby for Closing the Social Gaps, and the Lobby for Equality in Employment.

    In May 2015 Haim Katz was appointed Minister of Welfare and Social Services.
