The precariousness of Israel's "narrow waistline" becomes evident when considering the proximity of the 1949 Armistice Line (nicknamed the "Green Line”) to Israel's main international gateway, the Ben-Gurion Airport on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. Located a mere six kilometers from the nearest Palestinian village in the West Bank (Badrus), the airport is also topographically lower and therefore even more vulnerable to potential attacks.
Israel's main population center, the Dan metropolitan area surrounding Tel Aviv, is also located very close to the Green Line. Because of this proximity, more than three million Israeli civilians who reside in this part of the country could be in danger, should the Palestinian terror organizations introduce even the shortest-range missiles into the West Bank.
