Nature Reserves and National Parks

Israel boasts some 400 nature reserves and national parks, which together cover around one quarter of the country's surface. Managed by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, these protected open spaces provide the general public with access to nature, wildlife and heritage sites. Spread as they are from north to south the parks and reserves offer a wide variety of landscapes and climatic zones.
The fast economic growth the country has known coupled with a rapidly increasing population has rendered nature conservation all the more important. Environmental considerations have become an indispensable part of any planning process, taking into account the wellbeing of future generations. Both nature conservation and environmental protection are today firmly enshrined in legislation and in practice.
